Sundar Pichai: Google CEO announced to invest Rs 75,000 crore in India

On Monday PM Narendra Modi and Google CEO, Sundar Pichai had a discussion on various topics including the global pandemic and the work culture.About this discussion, Modi Ji also tweeted: “This morning, had an extremely fruitful interaction with @sundarpichai. We spoke on a wide range of subjects, particularly leveraging the power of technology to transform the lives of India’s farmers, youngsters and entrepreneurs”

Sundar Pichai announced an investment of Rs 75000 in India over the next 5-7 years through the ‘Google for India Digitisation Fund’.  He tweeted: “Today at #GoogleForIndia we announced a new $10B digitization fund to help accelerate India’s digital economy. We’re proud to support PM @narendramodi’s vision for Digital India – many thanks to Minister @rsprasad & Minister @DrRPNishank for joining us.”

The company in a blog said that the investment will focus on 4 areas which are important to India’s digitization:-

  • Affordable access to Indian languages
  • building new products and services unique to India
  •  Empowering business, and
  • leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in health, education,and agriculture

Narendra Modi also tweeted:” During our interaction, @sundarpichai and I spoke about the new work culture that is emerging in the times of COVID-19. We discussed the challenges the global pandemic has brought to areas such as sports. We also talked about the importance of data security and cyber safety.”

“I was delighted to know more about the efforts of @Google in several sectors, be it in education, learning, @_DigitalIndia, furthering digital payment,and more. @sundarpichai”.

Looking to COVID 19 situations in India, Sundar Pichai said “There’s no question we are facing a difficult moment today, in India and around the world. The dual challenges to our health and to our economies have forced us to rethink how we work and how we live. But times of challenge can lead to incredible moments of innovation.”
